New collection of e-books from Wiley publishers now available

We've just added another package of new e-books to our collection, spanning titles from Wiley publishers from 2017 owards, for instant access to a range of textbooks covering all subject areas, including medicine and nursing. All of these are searchable on our discovery system alongside all our other print and e-books, and it's easy to search using the Books tab on OmniSearch.

All the books in the collection can be accessed with an NHS OpenAthens account and the books are available to staff and students of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, and Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust.

Here are just a small selection of the e-books now available in this collection:

To open a book, click the link and then select the link to 'Sign in with your OpenAthens account'. Enter your account details and you'll then have full access to the book, including the ability to download whole chapters as PDF files.

There is no mobile app, but the site is optimised for mobile devices.

We now have a new collection of 138 titles via Kortext, and these include a number of titles in the 'at a glance' series as well as many other titles covering medicine, nursing, allied health and midwifery.

All of them can be found via OmniSearch using the 'Books' tab (where you can also search all of our other books and e-books) or you can access the Kortext collection directly (click 'Collections' after logging in to see the whole range of books available). Access is via an NHS OpenAthens account.

You can create a personal account to make it easier to login in future (and to enable you to use the mobile app). Visit the Kortext website, select your institution and login as normal with your NHS OpenAthens account. Logout by using the three dots at the top right of the screen and selecting 'Sign Out'. When the login screen appears again, select 'Forgotten Password?'. Use the email address linked to your OpenAthens account to get a password reset link.

Once you've reset your password, you can login to the website and mobile apps with your email and chosen password.

Access e-books anywhere, anytime, on any device

You can easily access a collection of over 16,000 e-books on the ProQuest Ebook Central platform and these can either be viewed online, or downloaded to a mobile device for access anywhere.

To view an e-book online, you'll just need a free NHS OpenAthens account to login and then you can read the whole book.

If you want to download an e-book for offline reading, you'll need to install the Adobe Digital Editions app for Android or  iOS. This is a free app, but does require you to register for a free Adobe ID. You'll also need your NHS OpenAthens account to download e-books to your device.

Our guide to downloading e-books gives more details and also explains how to access chapters of e-books on dedicated e-book readers. Once you've got the app set up, you'll be able to download our e-books to your mobile device for up to 14 days for offline reading. If you need them for longer, simply download them again.

E-books on the go

Did you know that books from Shrewsbury and Telford Health Libraries’ collection of over 16,000 e-books can be downloaded to your mobile device for offline reading?

If you have an Apple or Android device, download the free Adobe Digital Editions app and create a free Adobe ID to log into it. Then access our e-book collection, login with NHS OpenAthens, find your book, and select ‘Download Book’.

You’ll be able to select the length of time you’d like to download the book for, up to 14 days, but if you need it for longer, you can simply ‘borrow’ it again after 14 days. Alternatively, if you just want a chapter, you can simply download a PDF of a single chapter which won’t expire.

Finding e-books is easy - simply select the e-book tab on OmniSearch.

Rapid e-book series for reference or revision

The 'Rapid' series of e-books are concise and easy-to-read, and ideal for reference or revision, covering the common scenarios that students or newly qualified staff might encounter.

They can be read online or downloaded to a mobile device for 24/7 access, and are available to library members via NHS OpenAthens.

You can access them on our virtual bookshelf, or you can search the whole collection of 20,000 e-books via OmniSearch.
